Freelance Switch is my number one resource for freelancing advice and information. Since I started reading it in 2007, I’ve learned a lot about process, invoicing, client relations, etc. Definitely one of the best websites I subscribe to.

I wrote a little over a month ago about finding my first niche. As I said, it worked out for my for a while, but MySpace got big and snatched that market right out from under me. To be honest, it was time for me to move on anyway. My skills were getting better and I was ready to create real business solutions for real businesses. So I had to figure out what my next niche would be.

To add to the list of sample documents I’m providing, today I’ve added a contract template, as well as a sample contract. Just like the proposal, you’re free to modify and use it.

This contract is geared towards web development, so keep that in mind. Also make sure you go through and change any of the generalized stuff. If you haven’t already, also check out the read me file in the folder.

Finally, I’m not a lawyer. I’ve had a couple look this over, but it’s in no way comprehensive. It is suitable for my current operations. If you know someone who’s a lawyer and familiar with what you do, I’d ask them to read it over.

If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!

My philosophy for a lot of my life (and still with some aspects today) has been, “If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.” That might be because people like my father and other male figures I looked up to shared that same philosophy. It also might be because when I tried delagating work, it was not done or done wrong. Because of that I was seldom open to working with other people on projects. But over the years, I’ve learned that it’s inevitable.

Google Apps

I’ll be straight with you: Google Apps has changed my life. With GMail, Docs, Chat, and Calendar all installed on your domain, it really makes life much easier. They offer diffrent packages and deals for Business and Academics. If you’re a single person operation (like myself), you can always just sign up for a Google Account and get everything they offer in single serving form. Honestly, I feel these tools are the best out there, and accessible from anywhere. If you’re serious about getting organized, Google Apps is the best solution.

Last Night, Freelancing the Net launched a BETA version of its Freelancer’s Directory. As a  freelancer, you can sign up and automatically be listed in the directory. As someone looking for a freelancer, you have the ability to search for each different type of freelancer, and well as do a specific search using the search box at the top.

This is a beta and there are probably some bugs that need to be worked out. Also, if you’re looking for a certain feature or something doesn’t seem very intuative, let me know! I’ve added a feedback form to the page.
